Language Centre Outreach

Join an ongoing ministry team on a prominent Indian Ocean Island. Work beside experienced team leaders at an established training centre. The centre provides a place for children and students to get help with their homework, learn how to read, improve their English and engage in other educational activities. They also run English classes for adults. Candidate must be fluent in French (and English) before going to the assignment location.  

New workers will come in as Centre volunteers to provide teaching support. This work provides an authentic platform for life and ministry, and creates natural bridges into the community. This provides opportunities to mix with families and speak truth in to their lives.

Goals for new workers:

• Study the culture and learn the local language.

• Work in the Centre and develop new activities to serve and bless the community.

• Teach English, literacy, and other activities.

• Build intentional relationships with neighbours, friends, and students you get to know.

• Pray and have fellowship with other believers on the island.

The ideal candidate will be self motivated and disciplined with some training in ESL or teaching. Experience with cross-cultural work, preferably working with Muslim people would be desired.

Candidate must be creative, self-motivated, able to take initiative, able to ask questions or for direction when appropriate; ability to thrive in a cross-cultural team and ministry setting; ‘team player’, resilient, proven consistent walk with God and godly life-style, able to cope well under pressure.
