Film Production School | YWAM Perth

Film is a powerful medium to provoke thinking and spark discussion. The Film Production School is for anyone who has a passion for communicating through film. While growing in godly character, you will gain skills and knowledge as a filmmaker and be equipped to use your gifts for His purposes. Throughout the lecture phase, we focus on developing practical skills in all areas of filmmaking through hands-on experience. You will learn how to take your ideas and turn them into film projects that challenge the audience's thinking. Together we discover what it means to be Kingdom of God filmmakers, creating projects that open the door for the gospel.

Often filmmaking is used for personal glorification or with financial gain as the bottom line. We aim, instead, to serve through filmmaking. God hand-picked the craftsmen who would build His temple, and then He gave to them all the knowledge and wisdom they needed. In the same way, God calls us to be His crew when we make movies. It doesn’t matter the size of production you may be working on in the future. Deepening your relationship with God and growing in commitment to serve will provide an invaluable foundation. During the school, we look at the character of God together. How would Jesus approach filmmaking? What if He were the director on the set? The cinematographer? The producer? 

Through this school, you will learn how to co-create with God and make films that bring life, opening the door for the gospel. Topic focusses include: pre-production and production practice, creating with God, and how God’s character intersects with various aspects of filmmaking, such as sound, producing, directing and more. You will acquire practical skills through hands-on experience and have opportunities to work in each of the different roles on a film set. 

The Film Production School provides structured time to practice your craft in a safe and constructive environment. School staff members are committed to supporting the ideas and vision that God has given students, as we work together, strengthening our existing filmmaking community. YWAM Perth has growing filmmaking ministries, with leaders who are experienced in making films in local and cross-cultural contexts. We work alongside one another as we improve our skills and learn to invite God into the creative process.
