Ideal for college students looking for an internship placement, come serve the local Vietnamese church with ongoing training and mentoring from a long term worker in Northern Vietnam.
The majority of Christians in Vietnam come from the minority peoples, but the majority Viet Kinh (over 84 million people) has less than 500,000 believers, making it one of the most unreached people groups in the world.
Come and join our urban team as we equip the Vietnamese church to be effective in evangelism and discipleship. We value your contribution to our long term vision to see Vietnam transformed by communities of believers who are obeying Jesus and his Great Commission.
You will be part of a small team that is working among the Vietnamese in an urban setting, equipping and serving local brothers and sisters. You will need to be flexible and the ways you can serve will be varied, according to the opportunities which team members and yourself respond to.
You will begin with a period of language and culture learning through formal and informal Vietnamese classes to equip you in conversational Vietnamese and to have some understanding of the local setting.
Your schedule will vary week to week, but your time will include ministry activities, team meetings, meeting with your mentor/supervisor and weekly prayer walks. Ministry activities may include:
-Involvement in a Vietnamese church
-Using your skills or gifts to contribute to existing ministries
-Discipling through Bible Storying (training provided)
-Helping Vietnamese Christians improve their English in small groups
-Building friendships and reaching non-believers
No experience or specific qualifications necessary. We are looking for people who love Jesus and want others to love him too; who are seeking to grow in character as they serve God.
This position requires flexibility and a learner's attitude, ready to engage with the mentoring experience. You will need to be able to take initiative and be willing to contribute to team life- expect to grow in faith and perseverance! You should be aware that our work in Vietnam requires wisdom and discretion; we follow certain security precautions (especially in communication) and seek to work with sensitivity to the local situation, whilst remaining bold with the gospel. Living standards in Vietnam may be lower than you are used to, and you will need to be ready to face the challenges of living in a cross-cultural setting. You should be prepared for accommodation which is simple though comfortable, probably living alone. There will be opportunities to travel and visit to other ministry locations within Vietnam as well as participating in other field activities such as conferences or training.
