The SMBC Bachelor of Ministry is designed to prepare you for full-time vocational ministry. At AQF level 7, it’s ideal for those without an undergraduate degree. It can be studied full-time or part-time.
The Bachelor will give you comprehensive biblical foundations (Old Testament and New Testament) along with deeper study of theology, ethics, church history, missions, preaching and pastoral care. It has an emphasis on practical ministry and mission electives that allow you to specialise and integrate your studies with the contemporary world. This course does not require study of the biblical languages.
Studying the Bachelor full-time will also provide you the opportunity to concurrently do the SMBC Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM). The CBM gives you access to all the benefits of SMBC’s expertise in spiritual formation, cross-cultural mission and pastoral ministry.
The Bachelor also opens up pathways to further study at masters level, for example, the Master of Theological Studies. If for any reason your circumstances make it not possible to complete your Bachelor studies, it is possible to graduate with a Diploma (which requires 96 credit points) or Associate Degree (which requires 192 credit points).
The Bachelor of Ministry is an excellent option for those preparing to work in various associate roles in the local church, or with para-church and mission organisations – in Australia and overseas. It is well recognised by most denominations and mission agencies. The Bachelor of Theology (with study of the biblical languages) is generally a preferred option for those preparing for preaching and pastoral ministry.
