Do you have a heart to reach men and women in Sydney’s sex industry with friendship and the hope of Jesus?
Most of us find it hard to imagine the toll working in Sydney’s sex industry takes on those who experience it. Through the StreetLight ministry, volunteers in our Brothel Outreach Team meet men and women from varied walks of life. No two stories are the same. However, the individuals we meet share a common thread weaving through their lives. They believe they’ve been rejected and are unworthy of love. These feelings are compounded by the marginalisation and negative stigma associated with the work they do. StreetLight wants to change this. Our aim is to reach Sydney’s sex industry with the hope of Jesus.
On Tuesday evenings, StreetLight volunteers travel together to Sydney brothels. Through authentic friendship, we communicate the message that in our eyes, and the eyes of our heavenly Father, those we meet are so much more than the profession they work in. Our hope is that they will see themselves this way, too. Our desire is to see lives restored with knowledge of worthiness. We pray those we meet will one day believe Jesus loves them and wants to know them personally.
If you are a Christian woman, at least 21-years-old, and you are available on a Tuesday evening to join one of our teams, we’d love to hear from you. As many of the people we visit speak other languages, volunteers fluent in languages other than English are especially sought after, but this skill is by no means essential.
We’d love to see our Brothel Outreach Team grow in numbers, so we can reach more men and women in Sydney’s sex industry with the hope of Jesus.
